Hi friends,
I’ve had so many conversations lately that start the same way:
“Stephanie, what’s really happening in our schools?”
Social media moves fast. Headlines can feel loud. Board meetings are long.
So I’m starting something simple.
The Nordin Newsletter will be a short weekly note where I share what I’m seeing, what I’m learning, and what matters most for Collier County schools.
I grew up here. I graduated from our public schools. Now I’m raising four boys here, including twins with autism. I’m running because I believe Collier is an A-rated district for a reason — strong teachers, responsible fiscal leadership, and families who care deeply.
My goal isn’t to dismantle what works. It’s to protect it, strengthen it, and ensure every family feels heard.
Thank you for being part of this community.
February 4 School Board Meeting: Protecting Parent Trust
At the February 4 School Board meeting, the board considered a proposed settlement in a lawsuit brought by the Florida Citizens Alliance regarding access to parent email addresses.
The proposed settlement would have required the district to post a notice in the parent portal and assume consent if families did not respond within 30 days.
I spoke during public comment to encourage the board to carefully consider the long-term impact on trust between families and the district.
Because trust is not administrative. It is relational.
When families share their contact information with schools, they do so with the expectation that it will be handled responsibly and transparently. Silence should never be treated as consent when it comes to something that personal.
After hearing from community members, the board unanimously rejected the settlement and chose to let the matter proceed through the courts.
I believe that was the right decision.
Some issues are bigger than convenience. They are about precedent, clarity, and public confidence.
